I had the initial ideas for this film along time ago, before the filming of my first short film “Comfort Eating” and had the shoot booked and ready to go with a particular model. Unfortunately for the project, she had an early delivery (all was well though) and after a brief search for a replacement model, was ultimately cancelled.
It was during this search though that I first became aware of the performer in Fantasy Reconstituted, Ashleigh Doll, though by then it was too late to work together. I’m trying not to give away the main theme of the film in this discussion, but to cut to the chase Ashleigh got back in touch years later to let me know that conditions were once again suitable and to ask if I would like to work with her on the film.
Thus was the idea resurrected, a script agonised over (being so long in the making I really beat myself up in pre-production to make sure everything was perfect) and over the course of two shoots (months apart to allow for certain changes to develop…) Fantasy Reconstituted was filmed.
As you may know, I also compose the music for my films under the “These Papercuts” banner and decided that due to the exceptional circumstances around this project I wanted to take a different audio direction. As such, most of the sounds used were generated by processing stills from the film in audio software and then manipulated, treated and layered to construct the soundtrack.
